I don't know if this will help or only confuse, but I have Rayfields in my family. My ggg grandfather was Charles Rayffiel born in Lincoln, North Carolina in 10 March 1825.In the Sevier County, Tennessee Census he is listed as Charles Rayfield.
His father's name was listed as John Raffiel. I have been unable to find anything further on John except that he was married to an Elizabeth ? and had 10 children including Charles, Andrew, Tressel, Harriet 'Lily', Jane and Margaret.
I don't know where Cherry, NC is. Is that anywhere near Lincoln?
