George Washington Rayfield - Reynolds Co MO

I have an interest in George Washington Rayfield for a couple of reasons. First, his son Virgil married my great aunt (Sina Copeland). Secondly, he has ties (thru his dad, John Carter Rayfield) with the Mann family.

Anyway, I'm confused. Why do the Reynolds County marriage records for 1870-1891 show a George W Rayfield marrying Carrie Root on Dec 24, 1879, when the George W Rayfield that I'm familiar with, married Sarah Jane Thornton on March 23, 1876?

It's not a death or divorce because there are pictures of the Reynolds Co. George W Rayfield family (with Sarah) in 1897. So what's the deal? There was another George Washington Rayfield in Reynolds Co in the 1870's? Is it a misprint? Who the heck is Carrie Root?

Someone must have the answer. If you know what this is all about, please reply.
