Parentage? - Thomas Jefferson Ray & Thomas Samuel Ray
My direct line of Rea/Ray's:
1.Tracey = me
2.parents, male ROSS & female McCRADY (still living).
3.female LAMB & male ROSS (still living as of 6/2012).
4.Minerva Ann RAY & John Robert LAMB.
5.Wyatt Jefferson RAY & Nora KOEN.
6.Samuel Jefferson RAY & Eliza Jane ROBISON.
7.Thomas Jefferson RAY & Eliza SHELTON.
Thomas Jefferson REA/RAY was born in 1807 in North Carolina and died in 1887 in Indian Territory, "Chickasaw Nation" (Oklahoma) but was buried in the Coker cemetery in Bulcher, Cooke Co. Texas.He was in Oklahoma either living with or visiting his son, Rev. James T. Ray and or his daughter Mary (Ray) Barnett.
Thomas Jefferson Ray married Eliza Shelton 18 Oct 1842 in Shelby Co. Alabama.Eliza was about age 17 and 4 months pregnant when she married Thomas Jefferson RAY.There was approximately 18 years between Thomas and Eliza..makes me wonder if he had a previous marriage?
Some researcher say that my Thomas Jefferson RAY's Father was Luke & Martha (Sawyer) REA son of William & Rebecca (Scruggs) REA.In Luke Rea's will he does mention a son, Thomas "S".This Thomas S. Rea/Ray was supposedly born, 1 Jun 1823, (my Thomas J. 1807)and Thomas "S" supposedly died 1 Jun 1872 in Union Parish, Louisiana.In the 1880 census, my Thomas Jefferson (age 73) states that his parents were both born in North Carolina and not South Carolina..but this could be a mistake on his part as well?
I found a Thomas "S". Rea who married a Frances Elizabeth STANDEFER 21 Dec 1856 Shelby Co. Alabama.(my Thomas (m) 1842 Shelby, AL).The "S" in Thomas's name supposedly stands for, "Samuel"?
I'm still trying to figure this all out.I see that other researchers (including myself) have gotten it all confused.If you look at the many "Public Member Tree's" at Ancestry.com...my Thomas Jefferson info and the Thomas "S" or Thomas Samuel info have gotten all mixed up and mashed in together so much that it gives you a migraine just trying to sort out all the mistakes.
Some of the researcher's even have my Thomas Jefferson info dying in Maine..what the heck?I think people keep repeating others mistakes and it has gotten out of control..I know I have been guilty of it myself, but awhile ago I removed the incorrect information from my 2 tree's that I have posted at Ancestry.com and have just recently tried pointing out these inconsistencies that most people seem to be ignoring...well, lets see if I can cause a buzz and start getting researchers to take another scrutinized look at these 2 Thomas's.
So, until I can prove or dis-prove with a 100% accuracy the parentage of my Thomas Jefferson RAY..I refuse to add Luke Rea & Martha Sawyer as his parents.
Tracey..a stickler for "correct" information.
