Hi Dolo Iam both myself a Ray and Totten too. I come from Absalom Fletcher Teator husband of Emmaline Ray whos parents were Parris Teator and Rebecca Totten All the Tottens there came by 3 brothers William Totten Benjamin Totten John Totten. I come from Benjamin Totten and Ester unknown most likely her maiden name was Fowler some estimate Hicks. I have seen this marriage myself but never looked into it. My Emmaline Ray was the daughter of Micheal Ray and Patsy Collier.. Im pretty sure all these families were Dutch and French speaking Walloons from New Amsterdam and Bergen New Jersey Gerrit Teeter Dedericx Joseph Ray& Jean or John Ray John& Moses Collier all found in the Old Dutch French records in both New York and New Jersey. John Benge is on the same records specificaly named as French inhabitant, Jean or Dr John Totten oldest one in those records as Frenchman. These families seemed to have been part of John Vanmeters settlers in the northern neck then SW Va followed by a 2nd group that came through Frederick Co then to Rowan Co NC. Jersey Settlers. They all ended up near or by what was called the Dutch colonies of Kentucky Mercer co Lincoln co Shelby. Families close to Squire Boone. Zacharia Rays mother was a French speaker and he may he may of been a fluent French speaker himself.. Happy to correspond with you. I saw your post on the Ray photos. AOL is kaput. The owner of the originals is great grandson of Samuel Ray and Susannah Teator. His e mail address is on a post here I try to locate it for you. ACE Notify Administrator about this message?
