5. Thomas RAY: "Reported to have emigrated to Eastern Tennessee."

7. Sometimes named as "Hamilton RAY" and sometimes as "Unknown".

NOTES For Joseph RAY:

In 1775 - Joseph RAY settled on Indian Creek in now Tazewell Co., VA., on a 400 acre tract of land that was officially surveyed and entered in Washington Co., VA in 1788/1789.

FROM: History of Washington County and Southwestern Virginia, by J. P. Summers, pg 367

"The Indians first appeared in the house of Joseph RAY, whom they killed and scalped, along with several of his family."

ITEM: Later Court Records prove Mrs. RAY and her son John RAY, were not killed.

#1. Mrs. RAY is found in the 1803 Court Records of Madison Co., KY., when she made a deposition as the widow of Joseph RAY.

#2. In 1794 - John RAY is found in the Washington Co., VA Deeds when:

John RAY, heir at law of Joseph RAY, sold the 400 acres of land on Indian Creek.
