Early RAWLS-RAWLES families
Captain George RAWLES (later Maj.-Gen.) came to America in 1635, I have a theory who his wife may have been but no proof. it is said his son was Lt.Col.George RAWLES, his wife may have been Mary COPELAND, She was named in the will of her brother Thomas Copeland in Barbados, he named William ROLLS "eldest son" of my sister Mary ROLLS. She may have been the wife of George RAWLES, JR.
In Nansemond chronicles it is stated that Captain George RAWLES left all of his land to his son Lt. Col. George RAWLES, who in turn left his land to his son William RAWLES. This fits but of course is not solid proof.
it appears that "old Luke RAWLS" that died before 4 of march 1752, may have been the son of this William, and a brother to William RAWLS of HALIFAX county, North Carolina.
"old Luke" seems to be the father of Luke RAWLS, SR. who died 1800 in Robertson co., TN., Gabriel RAWLS who died abt. 29 July 1800 in Catahoula parish, LA. & Jesse RAWLS who died abt. 1761 in Northampton county, North Carolina.
I have a census project in progress placing all of these RAWLS families from the earliest times to present.
I along with Henry RAWLS, Stephen A. RALLS & David RALLS, are working together and along with others across the country to reconstruct the early RAWLS-RAWLES-RALLS families. any help is appreciated.
thanks
BOBBY RAWLS
