SUBJECT
Richard Trotter is conveying property to the other four parties who are to be the Trustees of a marriage settlement. The object is 'for settling a competent jointure and maintenance for the said Ann during her life if she shall happen to survive the said Richard Trotter'. If Ann outlives Richard then the Trustees are to pay her £50 per annum free from all taxes and out of the income from the property.
The property consists of a capital messuage (which implies the Manor House) known as High Hall, together with all the lands of Richard Trotter at Dent or elsewhere in the Parish of Sedburgh, Yorkshire.
The document begins by telling of a marriage agreement between Richard Trotter and his wife Ann in which Ann placed £800 in trust with George Foxcroft. This money will be used to pay off part of a debt of £900 on the lands hereafter mentioned.
