Anna "Kanerian" Rauschenberg, 1848-1897
Anna Elizabeth "Kanerian" was my great-grandmother, married to Carl Franz August Rauschenberg, my great-grandfather. I have her maiden name in quotes because I believe the Rauschenberg books (out of Atlanta, Georgia) in the 1950's and '60's are in error in giving her this name.I believe it is some sort of American corruption of Knierim, Knieriem, Knieriemen, or some other variant. The Atlanta censuses of 1870 and 1880 state that she was from Hesse, as were a family of Knieriems who came to Baltimore around the time she must have emigrated as a child. Her daughter Annie Elizabeth Rauschenberg (m.William Luke Cousins,M.D. in Atlanta), my grandmother, said that her mother came over from Germany and got married "in Richmond" on her 16th birthday right after the Civil War.She is buried next to her husband in Oakland Cemetery in Atlanta.I have much information about her, thanks to the Rauschenberg book, but I would like to find some family correspondence or something to clarify her maiden name.Any Rauschenbergs or others with knowledge please let me know.
