My family of Ratcliffe's have been traced to Cumbria in 1881. The census record there shows that my great great grandfather Danl originated from Ireland. He was born 1851.
Like your self i found looking for ancestors is Ireland tremendously dificult, although i have since been sent some information that early records show only 5 ratcliffe families had been living in ireland, or rather recorded in Ireland.

Even in the early 19OO's i know 4 variations of the name Ratcliffe in the same generation believe it or not two of them were brothers.
