"Eloped to Tennessee. Claude LANDER and Miss Florence RATLIFFE Wed in Clarksville." read the headline in The Hopkinsville (KY) Kentuckian, 19 MAY 1903, p. 1. "Mr. Claude LANDER, of Empire, and Miss Florence RATLIFFE, of North Christian, drove through from this city to Clarksville Saturday and were married Sunday morning. The couple returned here Sunday afternoon and went to Empire yesterday, where they will reside. The groom is a son of Mr. Geo. W. V. LANDER, of Empire, formerly of this city, and is employed in the Empire Coal company's store.
"The bride is a daughter of the late Byron RATLIFFE and is quite pretty and very popular. She is only about sixteen
years old."
