John Rathbone, sometimes (rarely) referred to as "the pilgrim", was born in 1629 in Ditton Parish, County Lancashire, England and baptized at the Farnsworth Parish Church (still in use today). He married Margaret Acres of Prescott Parish (born 1633) and came to America in 1654. He was the son of Thomas and Alice (Childwall)Rathbone. The Richard Rathbone, Marion Whipple connection was disproved many decades ago. It is still out there due to LDS records and "The Rathone Genealogy" by John Cooley. Most of John's sons adopted the Rathbun spelling. Researching Rathbone genealogy it is advised to also search the Rathbun and Rathburn forums.
