Rathbone Family Genealogy Forum

I don't know if anyone answered this; I don't check the RATHBONE FORUM that much -- I thought this would be easy to check on. I found NO Mary Rathbun/Rathbone born October 3, 1710, but found a Mercy Rathbun (possibly Rathbone, depending on how they spelled it) born October 3, 1688 who married a Jonathon Burch (sp ? - who knows)on August 26, 1706 -- she was the daughter of John Rathbun (2) and Ann Dodge. John (2)was the eldest son of one of New Shoreham's (Block Island)original settlers....John Rathbone (1)and Margaret Acres. A lot of mystery around John (2) and who was Ann Dodge--his second wife. She may have been the widow of Tristam Dodge's son Thomas (who disappeared from any record, about that time) -- lost at sea? a hazard for the fishermen of New Shoreham. The family of John Rathbone(1)in England was researched in depth at the family church in Widnes, County Lancashire, and the lineage extended back to 1535 (when churches were ordered to keep records). The church dates about 1100 AD and the baptism font is still in use there. We have visited it several times.
