According to "Ratchfords...I Reckon", a 543-page book by Mrs. Wilma Ratchford Craig, copyright 1971, of which a second edition appears to be in the works or on the way,
George Henry Ratchford (1833-1911) was a son of:
Ezekiel [who was the son of John (son of William and Mary Carroll Ratchford) and Mary Hetherington Ratchford]and
possibly Sarah Anderson Ratchford of Chester County, SC (who per an estate administration for James Anderson was deceased and whose family was in Alabama in 1835).
It is said "possibly" as to the maternal line due to several statements in the "Ratchfords...I Reckon" which would seem to imply that there was "possibly" a second marriage by Ezekiel sometime between 1828 and 1833, namely the date of birth of George being 1833 and his next older sibling Elizabeth being 1828 and neither George nor his oresymably younger brother Thomas included as heirs of Sarah Ratchford, as named in the James Anderson Estate.
Chester County borders York to the south, so this still may be your Ratchfords unless you are certain that they are York and only York. This couple was married in Chester County, SC but Ezekiel was buried at old Rock Mill Cemetery in or near Lafayette (presumably the town and not a county), (probably in Chambers County of which Lafayette is the county seat) Alabama and all three of their certain children were buried in Chambers County, Alabama, including John, McClellan, Elizabeth.
According to Mrs. Craig, this George was buried in Bethany in Georgia and was the father of one son, Robert ("Bobby") Ratchford by an unknown or uncertain first marriage and five children by his marriage toElizabeth Smith who is buried in Bartow Georgia. There is much more info as to descendants of this man in the book, a copy of which you should attempt to get if this is your line.See this message for info on getting in touch with the author:
