Jim;Thank you for answering my old message and all the good information. My great grandfather Patrick Joseph Ratchford's family settled in Leavenworth, Kansas around the 1890's. He left England with about six brothers for america. I was told Patrick was born 1863 in Tadcaster,England, but a 1881 York, England census i found on him (that matches his birth year)said he was born in Mayo, Ireland. His name was spelt Rachford. I think the T was dropped because it was pronounced differant. There was also a Thomas Rachford ( born about 1835)in Mayo, Ireland on the census with him. They were living with the Moran's from mayo, Ireland. All of my Ratchford's in Kansas were Roman Catholics.Do you know were and when your great grandfather Thamos was born? And do you know where he lived in England?I just e-maild a Mark Ratchford from Washington, D.C. His Ratchford family were all from Scranton,PA.and were Roman Catholics. The Ratchford's there all have the same first names as my Ratchford family.(Patrick,Joseph,James,John,Michael,Anthony,Bernard,Edward,Thamos and Walter).I think these are all Roman Catholic names.I beleave the Ratchford's in Scranton,PA. are related to my Ratchford's.But i think the connection is in Ireland. It's to bad the records of the Irish Ratchford's were destroyed in Dublin. There's got to be other records on the Irish Ratchford's somewhere.
Please keep in touch.
