More detail on [Arthur?] Noel Rash:
1910 Fed Census:KS, Montgomery Co., Cherryvale Ward 2, ED 160, p. 7A/51A, 708 E. Sixth St., #162/163.Enos D. RASH (head, 36, m1, 7 yrs, MO US US), Mary Ette (wife, 31, m1, 7 yrs, 3/3 children, KS VA IN), son A. Noel (6, KS MO KS for all children), daughter S. Ardath (4), and son Enos (10/12).
1915 Kansas State Census: Montgomery Co., Cherryvale, p. 16, #121/121:E. D. Rash (41), M. E. Rash (36), A. N. Rash (11), F. A. Rash (9), and E. D. Rash Jr. (5).
1920 Fed Census: KS, Montgomery Co., Cherryvale, Ward 1, ED 155, 417 E. First Street, p. 6A/87A, #139/150:Enos R. RASH (head, 46, MO US US), Maryetta (wife, 40, KS IN IN), with A. Noel (son, 15, KS MO IN), M. Ardath (dau, 14, KS MO IN), Enos (son, 10, KS MO IN), and Loyd L. (son, 1-7/12, KS MO IN).Note that the birthplace of the mother of all four children is listed incorrectly as "IN".
A. Noel Rash is not in the same household in 1930:Ennos D. and Mary E. Rash with children Ardath, Ennos D., and Loyd L. Rash.In that census, there is an Arthur N. RASH working in Oklahoma City as a cleaner in a cleaning shop (the only similar Rash, b. KS in 1905 +/- 5 yrs).
From my father's scrapbook:A publicity article in an unidentified newspaper indicates that the Terry Dantzler Orchestra "Sails For Shanghai Job", departing August 12, 1933, probably from Los Angeles Harbor. The article does not list Noel Rash among those on that voyage, but it does list a "Noel Paul, drummer", not otherwise identified in other publicity materials. That may be a stage name for Noel Rash. The band made an intermediate stop in Honolulu, Hawaii, and played gigs in Kobe, Japan before arriving in Shanghai.
The band opened at the Canidrome in Shanghai, China, on October 1, 1933.A publicity photo for the band for that venue includes a portrait of "A. N. Rash" (scanned image available upon request).
An undated news clipping on same scrapbook page as other Terry Dantzler Band information, reads in full:
“Mr. Rash's Funeral.Funeral services for the late Mr. Noel Rash took place yesterday afternoon in the International Funeral Directors chapel and the cremated remains will be sent to the mother in Cherryville Kansas.”The date of his passing is unknown. It might be assumed that the notice was published in Shanghai, China.
USGS-NGIS identifies “Cherryvale” in Montgomery Co., KS, at 371613N 0953309W.
