I don't know if this is the same book you are referring to but Heritage Quest has online a circa 1920s work by Edward Mays of Jackson, MS, titled:

"Genealogical Notes on a Branch of the Family of Mays and on The Related Families of Chappell, Bannister, Jones, Peterson, Locke, Hardaway, Thweath and Others"

It does have info on Rev. Wm Mays, early settler to Virginia (early 1600s). Rick
