I found this quote in an 1879 History of Chemung Co NY:
"The mother of John Ten Brook, of Elmira, Charity Van Neste by name, was directly descended from Sarah Rappelye, the first white child born in what is now New York City, whose birth took place July 7,1625."
Not only can we not prove that Gerritje (Charity) Van Neste born 04 Aug 1738 died 02 Jan 1770 was married to Johannes TenBroeck (father of John) but we also cannot find her parents. There are a couple of bad genealogies online listing her as the daughter of Jan VanNeste and Sarah Vroom, but this seems highly unlikely if she was born in 1738, since Jan & Sarah Vroom VanNeste did not marry until 1746 and several genealogies listing their family do not include a Gerritje or Charity.
If she is a direct descendant of Sarah Rappleye b in 1625, through WHOM??
Does anyone have the line of descent through Sarah that recognizes this lady. I know one of Sarah's sisters was married to a VanNeste but this wouldn't give a "direct line" from Sarah.
