My name is Kristin Peterson Lang. My grandmother, Anna Diegel, is from Windecken, Germany and has a tablecloth that belonged to Paula Muller - a Jewish woman who escaped Nazi Germany to England and then to Johannesburg, South Africa in October 1947. Paula gave my grandmother the tablecloth as thanks for bringing her food in the dead of night on a regular basis.
The table cloth is in my possession and I have attached a picture of the monogram "PM" that is hand-stitched by Paula. It was tradition my grandmother tells me, for girls of 14 or 15 to begin preparing linens for the day they were to be married. I have a whole set of napkins and tablecloths of my grandmothers all hand-stitched with "AD" in the corners.
Paula's two sons from her marriage with Gustav Rapp (which ended in divorce) were named Julius Rapp (born 1916) and Alfred (maybe Albert?) Rapp (born Aug 10, 1917). The two sons settled in South Africa in 1935 or 1936. All of this information I received from a book written in 1994by Monica Kingreen. "JUDISCHES LANDLEBEN IN WINDECKEN, OSTHEIM UNDHELDENBERGEN"
My goal is to find family members of Julius Rapp and Alfred/Albert Rapp. Julius died in 1981, and Alfred/Albert died in 1975. Paula (who had eventually remarried to a man named Leopold Nathan) died in 1980.
I would imagine that Paula's remaining family might want to have this tablecloth, it is gorgeous. I would be appreciative if you could point me in the direction of her decendants.
Many thanks,
Kristin Peterson Lang
