Just found your message...several years ago I wrote to the village of Colmar in Alsace where there is a museum called Muse de Underleinden (museum under the tree). This museum is dedicated to The General and to the fellow who designed the statue of liberty. I wrote to both and received very terse and almost scornful letters that the genealogy of the general is well established and that I cannot be related. They would not give me any information. You may find some info on-line about he city and the museum...Good hunting, Phil
