Amen to that Tim. If I can find it, I miss placed the Dawes application for one of John Raper's daughters. Mary Louisa Raper Griepinkerl, stated on her Application, that her father was John Raper, a white man, and her mother was Anie Raper a Cherokee. Both were deceased at the time of her application. Mary passed away about 1911 in Oklahoma. She married a Ferdinand Griepenkerl, a Doctor in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma (my birth and hometown). She also stated that she had one living brother, Thomas Raper in California. Mose Raper was the one killed by George Rogers, a Cherokee, and this was the one that John Raper killed. Mose's widow, Martha, was living with William and his family in 1880, listed on the 1880 Census of the Cherokee Nation of Indian Territory. She had remarried in 1890 to a Canard, but was still with the family even though William was dead. I think maybe she was George Rogers' sister. The court records say that John Raper had already lost one son to Indians. It also stated that John Raper was a white man married to an Indian and had several children living in Indiad Territory. Mose Raper and Thomas Raper were the only ones that had children. Mose's grand children are listed for the 1896 payment to the Old Settlers or their decendents. Mose's Cherokee land grant was approx. location of Three Rivers Cemetery at Okay, Oklahoma. Thomas Raper went to California some time between 1850 and 1860. Had several children, but didn't return to Indian Territory for the '96 payment. Hope this may help someone. Tim I have two o's in my name. More info later. I am Cherokee, but my family was named Feather, which was shortened from Feather-in-the-Water. Herbert Gootee Notify Administrator about this message?
