Hi Robert,
If you are working with Tim, then you have one of the best Raper searchers helping you. I need to get intouch with Tim again. I just found out his new address. I've tried but I had his old one.
About John Raper;
The Cherokee Emigration Roll 1817-1835 has
Ailsey Raper, Jesse Raper, and John Raper listed as Rapers that chose to go to Indian Territory before the forced removal of 1839.
The Old Settlers Roll of 1851 also has these same names.
Unfortunately they were all deceased for the 1896 pay roll for the Old Settlers.
Several researchers that I have found have a John and Jesse as the sons of Thomas Raper and Elizabeth Bray, but they don't have any info other than approx. years of birth,1799-1806.
The John I'm looking for was born sometime 1800-1805 in South Carolina, maybe after North Carolina was split. I've been out of school too long to remember when that was. John married a Cherokee woman named Annie.
This partly came from a lady named Martha Redus, she passed before I could find out where she got her info.
Another lady, Janie Lasiter, sent me the info about Mose Raper's death and John Raper's trial.
Right now my e-mail provider is down. We have had some bad weather out this way(Oregon). I'll send you what I have when I get service back.
My wife and I are both Cherokee.
Mose Raper was my wife's g.g.g.father. His son, William's marker says son of Mose and Martha. I really am not sure where Mose and Martha are buried, but William is buried in Three Rivers Cemetery, Okay, Oklahoma. I'll be in touch with both you and Tim , maybe next week. That's when I get service back. Talk to you soon. Tim, if you read this, put a 2 in front of my old e-mail.
Herb
