The 1880 U.S. Census lists Cicero Rape as the son of Thomas Jackson Rape. Thomas Jackson Rape was a brother to my great grandfather John Augustus Rape. I have not only corresponded with but met in person different cousins who were grandchildren of Thomas Jackson Rape, my great-grandfather's brother. I think you will find that all of Thomas Jackson Rape's children were born in Walker county, Georgia. I was told about Cicero by some of the grandchildren of Thomas Jackson Rape. However, I have to admit that I do have a list of names and approximate years of birth for five children who I show were children of Cicero Rape and his wife, Anna Person.
I can also tell you that Cicero is not the only person born with the name of Rape who changed the name to WRAPE. We have cousins in North Carolina and other cousins in Georgia who also chaned the name to Wrape. Then there are quite a few other spellings adopted to escape the negagtive connotation of the Rape spelling. Please send an e-mail to me at [email protected] and I will attempt to reestablish contact with some of your closer kin in Walker County, GA who I feel certain can help us with this. Also, I will begin a concentrated effort to learn more and I think we can make some progress. I just recently found the death certificate for one son of Cicero who was listed as Oliver R. V. Rape and was born 21 Oct 1907 at Briar, Parker County, Texas. He died 20 July 1959 at Fort Worth, Tarrant County, TX and was buried at Laurel Land Cemetery , Fort Worth, TX. I will attempt to learn more. John V. Reeb
