Frederick Leslie RANSOME died 6 Oct 1935 in California. He is a descendant of James RANSOM 1782-1849 of Ipswich England, and son of Ernest Leslie RANSOME 1844- and Mary Jane DAWSON. FL's father, in Chcago, was president of RANSOME-SMITH Concrete Company. 2 brothers taught at Harvard. This was a prominent family in Oakland CA. FL had a sister Violet.

FL and family lived at 1455 Belmont St in Washington DC in 1920; included Janet 20, Violet 16, Alfred L 9.

California State Library's Cal. Info. cardFile has many entries for this extended family, including F L in the 1937 American Biography vol 7, pp294-295; FL's career as a mining engineer at UCB; his article The Great Valley of California; UCD student survey [don't know what that is]. Also this interesting item:
"Katherine RANSOME, marriage to Ira C BOSS, July 16, NY. The bride is the daughter of Mrs F L RANSOME. S F Chronicle July 17, 1904 75/4" I wonder if the date should read 1940, and I doubt there were 75 sections in the Chronicle, so perhaps the card is just "hard to read", or I have the designation backwards. [I'm looking at a photocopy from a microfilm printout].

the 1904-1959 SanFrancisco [Chronicle?] cardIndex lists Alfred L's appointment as supervisor of SF office Bureau of Mines, 12-2-45 10 p2;
Mrs Amy C RANSOM death 8-25-42 13p5
Dr Frederick L, death 106, in 10-7-35 11p4
Death of Arthur Wilfrid 10-2-49 [bro of FL; another brother, Ernest Edward, died ae 28 in 1900]
brother Bernard, bio; in-laws vacationing; Father E L's biography.

Good luck!
