Colonel H. C. Ransom (Active in the American Civil War)

Greetings to all the members of the Ransom Family!

My name is Randal J. Loy, and I am researching the histories of the major memorial gifts at my church, Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral (Episcopal), the Cathedral Church of the Diocese of West Missouri.

The Foyer of the most recent building constructed by our Parish is dedicated to Mercedes Latshaw Anderson (1914-2000), who is a descendant of Henry Joseph Latshaw (1835-1906).

Henry Joseph Latshaw was a Captain in the Union Army, active in the American Civil War. During that conflict, he served as a quartermaster. On January 25, 1863, Captain Latshaw relieved Colonel H. C. Ransom, Chief Quartermaster of the Army of Kentucky.

Does anyone in the family know the full name of Colonel Ransom? And, more importantly, does anyone have any life dates for him? I don't need the specific dates of birth and death -- the years will suffice for my purposes. I would like to include as much information as possible about the person Captain Latshaw relieved in 1863 in the book I am writing as a gift to the Parish.

If you have any information in this regard, please feel free to contact me directly at

Thank you so very much for your assistance!

Randal J. Loy
