I have been convinced for some time there was
a tie-in between the Rainsford and Gibson
families. This hunch was based on the fact
that my ggggrandfather, Ephraim H. Gibson had
as co-executors of his will his brothr in law,Nathan Howardand Josahua W. Rainsoford
(of PA).Ephraim H. lived in Broome County, NY.I have had a deuce of a time trying to
locate his parents, and thru the kindness of
a lady in CT who was searching Oneida county,
NY, where I knew Ephraim had owned land, located the will of his father, William, whose wife was named Eleanor. They had daughters Sarah and Mary, who married Kenedys
Eleanor and Roseanna Gibson, and JOANNA who married a Vicery. It could fit thatwhen Rainsford married the widow Gibson, she
mayhave been William Gibson's mother, and he would have become a step son to Rainsford.
I am guessing William's father ws either a William or an Ephraim Gibson, as William and Eleanor named their two sons William and
Ephraim, and Ephraim H. named his sons William Harrison and Ephraim Franklin.William Harrison named his first son William
Riley.
I do not know whether this speculation is of
any use to either of us, but would serve to
associate the two names.
This gggggrandfather, William, whose will I
just located, lived in Genesee county, near
Batavia. His will ws signed in July, 1819.
Ephraim H. was born ca. 1780, so his father
would likelyu have been born around 1760 or so.
