I think the family below must be yours.I can give you a great deal more on the Ransdells if you write me at [email protected] that there are two men named George W. about the same age.
1. William Ransdell, probably b. ca. 1761, since he appears in Orange Co., Va. tax lists before Wharton, d. before his father's estate was divided, probably in about 1802, as did his father. The division of his father's land indicates that he had heirs, because 54 acres was assigned to the heirs of William Ransdell.Notice the sale in 1836 by Benjamin W. Ransdale of Pettis Co., Mo. of 54 acres to Fielding Ransdell. It is described in Mercer Co., Ky. Deed Book 21, p. 283 as part of a 500-acre tract of William Ransdell which his heirs received. It is assumed that Benjamin W. Ransdell, b. ca. 1793, Va., in the 1850 census of Pettis Co., Mo. is the son of this William, especially since a Benjamin Ransell m. 1820, Mercer Co., Ky. Sarah Higgins, and the Benjamin of Pettis Co. has a wife Sarah. In the adjoining household is James "Ransdale," who will be taken to be their son.
