The biography of Stephen T. Ranney, now online, indicates that his grandparents are Stephen Ranney and Olive Jaques. My great-great grandmother, Lucretia Ranney, is shown as the daughter of Olive Jaques and "Mr." Ranney. The biography also lists a son, Solomon Ranney, of Brown Co IL. Lucretia married James Edgar Sturdevant in Portage Co., OH and then moved to Brown CO IL. Stephen is said to be a native of New York, but given that he was probably born before 1800, it is just as likely that he was born in Connecticut. Any information anyone has on the identity of this Stephen Ranney would be vastly appreciated.
