The surprised workers who found the marker are demolishing older houses and apartments at 7707 and 7709 Gannon Avenue to make way for two luxury townhouses. One of the old houses torn down was a small frame farmhouse from the 1800s...
To learn more about Selena Paine, Hamilton traced the ownership of the property in records from 1798 through 1918. Hamilton said that CHARLES S. RANNELLS had owned the property in 1860 and there was no evidence that the Paine family ever owned the land. Hamilton speculates that because the property was owned by a large landowner, the Paines could have been tenant farmers...
