NEW DISCOVERY RANNELLS/BAY GUERNSEY OH
New information just found may be of partiuclar interest to those who are descendants of THOMAS and ELIZABETH BLACKBURN BAY, (Washington County, PA and Guernsey County, OH)and those who descend from either DAVID and RUTH RANNELLS or his brother, WILLIAM RANNELLS (Washington County, PA or Guernsey, Noble, OH):
A major unsolved mystery has been the maiden name of the wife of WILLIAM BAY, 3rd son of Thomas and Elizabeth Blackburn Bay. All researchers seemed to know that she was RUTH, RUTHIA, or RUTHIAS, but none seemed to know her maiden name.
Many researchers have long thought RUTHIAS was a RANNELLS - NOT a child of DAVID and RUTH RANNELLS, but perhaps a child of DAVID'S BROTHER, WILLIAM.
It has been learned that the wife of WILLIAM BAY was not a Rannells but was, in fact, RUTH MCCANDLESS.
Another researcher found a marriage record for WILLIAM BAY and RUTH MCCANDLESS, January 19, 1808 in HARFORD COUNTY, MD.
Now an obituary has just been found for a daughter of this couple which states that Mrs. Black (Lucinda Bay Black) who died November 2, 1906 in Hardin County, OH, "was born near Cumberland in Guernsey county, Ohio, and was the sixth child of William and Ruth MCCANDLESS Bay, early pioneers of that county, settling there about 1810."
