Have been trying to trace the history of the David Rankin who was at Harrisburg for the Battle of San Jacinto.I have conflicting dates of birth for him, ranging from 1831 (US Census shows he was 29 in 1860) to Texas Mounted Volunteers records which showed him to be age 24 in 1848.I wonder if he lied about his age (17) to get into the Texas army.
Anyway, I am trying to determine if he is related to Colonel Robert Rankin, who was born in Virginia in 1753, and served directly under George Washington before moving to Texas.I can trace my family to Col. Rankin-John Keith Rankin-Moses Berry Rankin-Margaret Rankin, and am trying to determine how or if the David Rankin of San Jacinto is related in that lineage.
