Maggie, have you found proof that Jacob FORTENBERRY was the son of James Leath FORTENBERRY?
I am assisting a prospective DAR member with her application and have recently found that James Leath FORTENBERRY did serve in the Revolutionary War, Company F of the 5th South Carolina Continental Line under Col. Issac Huger. This woman descends from Matilda FORTENBERRY, daughter of Jacob, who married Alexander Crockett CHILDERS.
The service of James was found in "Roster of South Carolina Patriots in the American Revolution", by Bobby Gilmer ROSS, Limestone College.
As you stated, the FORTENBERRY families were in Lawrence County, Arkansas, including James Leath FORTENBERRY who died there in 1831.
I just need something that states Jacob was the son of James and if anyone reading this post can help, please let me know. I will be happy to provide the research items we have found.
