It is also possible that Peyton Randolph was not Cherokee, but I have an entire file from the Dawes Commission where his grand-daughter (Emily Green Lankford), son-in-law (Robert Lankford), and several elders of the Cherokee tribe in Oklahoma say in affidavits that he was Cherokee, but left McMinn area before any of the Eastern rolls were created and thus was not able to be certified. One of the elders was a member of the tribal council at the time of his affidavit.
