Peyton Randolph Family - McMinn Co. TN

Over the past several years, a number of researchers have explored the ancestry and descendents of Peyton Randolph who lived in McMinn County, TN in the early 1800s. Most researchers believe his wife to be Mary Payne and his ancestry to go back to NC and VA. Here is a twist that I would appreciate comments on. I am a descendent of Peyton's daughter Lucinda and her husband Robert Lankford. In 1889, Robert gave an affidavit to the Dawes Commission in support of his daughter Emily's application to be recognized as Cherokee Indian through her mother Lucinda and Lucinda's father Peyton. In the affidavit Robert States that his wife is the daughter of Peyton Randolph, a Cherokee Indian. He then provides a rather complete genealogy of Peyton's family. He claims Peyton's wife is Elizabeth Lasen (his spelling is not great so I believe this might be Lawsen or other similar name), Not Mary Payne as other researchers have found. Peyton's children are listed as (I have corrected some of the spelling): Thommy, Chism Ruben Pleasant Jeptha, Peyton, Jr., Lucy, Lucinda (his wife) and Sallie Minerva.

Comments on "Elizabeth Lasen" vs. Mary Payne would be appreciated.
