Hi. Your grandfather, Garvin B. Rand, appears on the 1910 Limestone County, Texas census in Justice Pct. 6. His father was Rob Rand, age 32, born Texas, father born Alabama and mother born Georgia; his mother, Ada J. Rand, was age 22, born Texas as were her father and mother. They had been married 5 years. Children were Albert N., age 4; Naomi, age 2 and Garvin B, under age 1.

You might want to obtain a copy of your great-grandfather's death certificate to see if the names and birthplaces of his parents are listed. A copy of the marriage record of Rob and Ada Rand might also list the names of their parents.

Oral history is a good starting point, but sometimes you have to sort through every story to find the facts. Almost every family has a "3 brothers" story - sometimes it is true and sometimes not.

There is lots of information to be found and it can take time, but it is so rewarding to find each tidbit.

Good luck.
