I'm having problems with the correct surname for one of my ancesters. Her first name was Elizabeth and was born abt 1831 in Indiana. In Nov 1848 she married Samuel Wilson Moore who was born in 1824 in Tennseess. Elizabeth dies before 1860.
They had three children:
Rachel Ann Moore born in 1949 in Indiana
James G. Riley Moore born 1850 in Indiana
George W. Moore born in 1857 in Iowa.
Here's my problem, I was originally told that her last name was Romy. Certain contributors to the Internet claim that her name was Ramsey while others claim that it was Philpot.
In the 1856 Wright Co., Iowa Census I found Samuel, Elizabeth, Rachel, and James with two other co-habitators; those being James G. Riley and Thomas Moore. Thomas is the brother of Samuel. I have began to wonder since that Samuel and Elizabeth named their first son James G. Riley Moore, is this other James living with them might be Elizabeth's brother and her maiden name Riley.
What I'm asking is has anyone come across an Elizabeth Ramsey that married this Samuel W. Moore?
Rachel is my gg grandmother. I have seen her death record. It supplies the father's name and state of birth, but only gives that state of birth for the mother and nothing else.
Any help will be appreciated!
