My great-grandfather's name was Fleming Ramsaur. He was a civil engineer who built railroads for a time for Southern Railroad. He also built the Lake Quoquitlam dam in British Columbia, Canada.

Fleming Ramsaur was born 6/27/1868 in Lincolton, NC. and died in 1928 of pneumonia.

The Ramsaur name is typical of many names of European families who emigrated to America. The name got changed many times. It was originally Ramsauer, but can be seen as Ramsaur, Ramsour, Ramsower or Ramseur. The pronunciation that I know is Ram-sewer, but the proper German pronunciation is Ram-sow(female pig)-er. I have never heard any other pronunciations.

I have done a google search for Fleming "Ramseur" that came up empty. I don't know if my great-grandfather is the person you are asking about, but I don't think there are too many railroad builders by that name.

I hope this information helps you out. Let me know if I can get you more information.

Jim Mauney
