Hello,
My name is William L. Rampley and I live in Marietta, Georgia.I think the William Rampley that you are looking for may have been my great-great grandfather.I am also trying to find out more about William. My William was born in Spartenburg, SC about 1818 or 1819 and he had two sons James Samuel and William Eliphus Rampley. James was born in 1844 and my great-grandfather William Eliphus was born in 1846. William's first wife was Priscella I believe and then later in life his wife was Martha A. William and his family did move to Cherokee County, Georgia and I believe remained there until Cherokee County was broken down into smaller counties such as Cobb, Bartow and Cass counties. I haven't been able to find out much more about William but James Samuel and my g-g-grandfather, William Eliphus lived out the rest of their lives in Georgia. Both boys served in the Civil War as members of the Cherokee Guard (part of the georgia Militia). William Eliphus married Mary Cansada Cline and they raised their family, including my grandfather, O C Rampley, in Bartow County, Georgia and Eliphus and Cansada are both buried in Bartow County. Mary Cansada's family was from Blount County, Tennessee and her father, Jesse was killed during the Civil War. My grandfather, Oscar was a grocery store owner and the warden of the prison camp that was in Bartow County, Georgia. My dad, William Lewis Rampley, grew up in Bartow County and was killed in a work related accident in Atlanta when he was 37 years old.He is also buried in Bartow County along with my grandparents, aunts and uncles.
My family and I live in Marietta, Georgia.
What I am hoping for is that someone can help me link up my great-great grandfather with his parents or ancestors in North or South Carolina and also help me link up to our ancestors in England. There were two Rampley's that I am aware of who came to the colonies early on.One was James Rampley who settled in Maryland and the other was William Rampley who I believe is our family but I do not yet have proof of that. I understand that William came from a very well to do family in England and he was shanghied (sic) by the British Army to come and fight against the colonists but eventually escaped and came South. I think that it is a good possibility that this is my ancestors but I have no proof of that yet.I am hoping that someone may be able to help us put our families together because I would like to do that for those of us who are left in my family. If you or anyone have any information, please email me at [email protected] and I thank you.
