William Remy or Ramey, who married Polly Henson, was the son of William R. Ramey and Eleanor Harrison of Pike Co., KY (who left a will in 1864 in Pike coumty in which he named his children). William R. Ramey was the son of Daniel Remy and Rachel Johnson. Daniel Remy was the son of James Remy, who was the son of William Remy and Catherine Asbury. This William was the older son (there were only two children) of Jacques (Jacob) Remy, the immigrant, who was French Huguenot from Picardy France. I have a copy of "The Remy Family in America" by Dr. Bonnelle William Rhamy, who made several mistakes. Some you can reason out. Others make no sense at all.
Jacob (or Jacques) married 1st to a French noble lady named Francoise Haldat, who apparently died at sea, because the ship she was on (different from the one Jacques was on)arrived; and she was not on board. They did not have any children as yet, because they had married shortly before fleeing from the massacres of the French people. They didn't have enough money to pay for their passage, so they became indentured servants.
It was years before Jacob married a woman called Mary (on his will) and no name was ever discovered as her maiden name. She gave him two sons--William and Jacob. Dr. Rhamy thought Jacob (Jacques) married the daughter of Marmaduke Miles. That theory was trashed when I pointed out to my sister and others that there was no Marmaduke Miles. Dr, Rhamy had read the index incorrectly for the will of a man named Miles Marmaduke. I read the will. It clearly states, "I Miles Marmaduke". No Mary Miles if there was no Marmaduke Miles. Pure speculation. To cinch that, Jacob Remy was just one of the trustees for Miles Marmaduke's estate, because the only child, a son, was too young to handle his father's estate.
As for the theory that Jacob's wife was Mary Miles Spencer, I traced the Spencer lineage back a few generations and the Mary Spencers had married other men. Not Jacob Remy. That idea was based on the thin thread just because somebody thought Jacob had married the boss' daughter. Nicholas Spencer was the man, who had paid for Jacob to come to America. So all we have is Jacob's will naming his wife as Mary and his two sons--William and Jacob. Hope this helps you a bit. Cousin Iris
