Hi Cheryl, Yes we used the Familytree DNA project for my hubby. We are lucky there was a fellow who has a Dresser website with info on all the Dresser family that he has researched & others folks have sent him info on their lines over the years. He has listed Many lines that don't connect but at least it's a way to find out others who are researching those lines. We match his DNA - so now we are just trying to figure out where hubby's great grandfather connects with them. I'd looked for years - countless hours of searching trying to find a connection to other Dresser family so the testing just helped us narrow down the search fields. It didn't help that Great Grandpa Dresser would list different states he was born in on the census & ages he gave would give us a different year of birth so narrowing the field has been worth the money we spent on the testing. Now we know where to focus our researching & aren't searching all the Dresser families looking for clues. There are not many who have submitted their DNA to this surname project so I was worried they wouldn't find a match for his line but we were so excited at the findings that we matched the fellow who had the website so we have a common goal to work toward. We still have to do the research to prove the connection but it sure narrowed down the familes we are looking into now. I've also have been following the Wells family DNA project. I have 2 different Wells families, one on my mom's side & one on my Dad's side of the family, one from the South (NC)& one Wells family who stayed in the northern states so it's been interesting watching this DNA study. They have a wonderful website showing the info that others have submitted on their research & using the DNA findings to help sort these groups out & they have been knocking down lots of brick walls. Since it's only Males who can join the DNA project & me being female I can't do the testing but watching the results page for info has been really interesting. There are alot more people who have joined this group so they have alot more material to work with now. It would really be interesting to find out more on the Ralston DNA study so hopefully in the future someone will take this on & develop a Ralston webpage with the results. OR They could post their results here & we can all see what has been done. It will help lots of us researching these different Ralstons families lines now & in the future. I know my Ralston line from my earliest Joseph in Brooke county VA/WV had so many branches from that one fellow that they called that area of Kings Creek the Ralston valley. His 2 sons had abt 28 kids between the 2 of them. After gathering up all the census records from 1790- 1930's in Brooke & Hancock which was formed from Brooke co in 1848. There were LOTS of them & connecting with some of the branches helps gather a bigger picture of who they were. So we can hope more Ralston males will join the DNA project in the future & share their results with us gals who are working so hard on tracking down our early Ralston fellows. Happy Trails on all your Ralston family's researching. Kim Ralston Dresser Notify Administrator about this message?
