I know I'm replying to an old message, and I think I've communicated with Fran, but just for the record, here's a good source of info for the Raysor family of South Carolina:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~raysor/http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~raysor/
The name was spelled alternately Razor, Raysor, and Razor in early South Carolina records, from the districts of Charleston and Colleton.Michael Raysor/Razor and Eleanor Risher appear to have moved from New Bern, Craven County, North Carolina, around the 1770s with their families. We have quite a bit on descendants, but have not made any headway on connecting this group to other Raysors.
Since they migrated from New Bern and settled in "lowcountry" South Carolina, it's likely that these Raysors were of Swiss-German descent.I've seen one reference that they were Welch, but my grandmother was certain that they were German.
It's likely that, at least since the mid 1700's, this family pronounced the name with a long "a". They consistantly spelled it "Raysor" after around 1830.
Hope this helps!
Pat
