My current view is that most of today's Raineys are probably related, although to a degree, other similar, but unrelated names may also have been blended into the Rainey surname pool. Since the "Dekalb Plantation" Raineys originally came from Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland, as my ancestors did, there is an excellent chance their ancestors were the same "Plantation of Ulster" planters from Scotland as my ancestors. Further back, their roots would have been in the old Pictish culture of Scotland.
