Dear Betty
What sort of dates do you have for your ancestor David Rainer?

My great-grandfather John Cragin Rainer was born in New York in 1820 and died in Melbourne, Australia, in 1889. He was a son of New York merchant George Rainer and his wife Harriet Rainer (maiden name: De Bowen). I have no other information about John's parents or whether he had any siblings. It is at least possible that George and Harriet may have been immigrants from, say, the British Isles. The choice of 'Cragin' (an Irish surname) as a middlename for John may suggest a part-Irish background.

So, what do you know about your David? Where and when did he live and whom did he marry?

Best regards
Tony Rainer
Melbourne, Australia
