I grew up in Dothan knowing my cousin, Gene Rainer Howell, who was the son of "Doc" Howell. They lived in Geneva, Alabama, and we visited them frequently. In the late 50s or early 1960s, Doc established an optometry shop in Dothan in the second block of North Foster Street from my family's now defunct photography business (Rainer's Cameras and Photography Store, 140 North Foster Street). North Foster Street and the surrounding area have since been turned into a "historic district" and I have no knowledge of the current state of the area or of Doc's business. My last news regarding Gene was that he found work as a radio or television personality in either Dothan or Montgomery.
