Obit in Alma (Wabaunsee County, KS) Enterprise, June 16, 1939. Joseph Raine, aged 75, one of the finest citizens of this county for nearly 70 years, died at his home near Maple Hill at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday after a long period of illness. We have known him well for over 40 years and have always admired him for his many fine qualities and his high character. If he ever did anyone a wrong, it was without intention on his part and he was valued most highly as a friend and a citizen. Joseph Raine was born at Salt Lake City, Utah, August 22, 1863, and came to Kansas with his parents at the age of six. They settled on a farm on Wells Creek, where they lived for over 40 years. He was married to Addie Cowan on April 23, 1886 at Wamego, and on leaving Wells Creek they moved to a farm south of Maple Hill in the spring of 1910, where he lived until his death. He leaves his wife, 3 sons; Lee, Lester, and Francis; and 2 daughters, Mrs. Jessie Arnold, all of Maple Hill, and Mrs. Annie Sander of Alma, 14 grand and 3 great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Raine celebrated their golden wedding 3 years ago. The funeral was held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Stone church at Maple Hill with burial in the cemetery there.
