RAINBOW,HOLLIS, CLARKE,HANSLOPE & COSGROVE

Hi Everyone,

I am hoping that there might be a RAINBOW researcher out there that might be able to help me solve the puzzle of my GG Grandfathers correct ancestory.

The story that has been passed down in our family is that Edward William Rainbow added the name HOLLIS to his name some time before his marriage to Mary Ann Atterbery in 1848,apparently he took his mothers maiden name.
I have his marriage certificate and he was married in the Parish of Cosgrove in the County of Northampton in May 1868.
On this certificate, his name is listed as Edward William Rainbow HOLLIS,he lists his fathers name as William RAINBOW and his residence is listed as HANSLOPE.

I also have a copy of William RAINBOWS marriage to Elizabeth HOLLIS on 25 December 1848.Elizabeth's father is listed as George Clarke HOLLIS,but the witness on the certificate looks like it could be Elizabeth's sister and her name is listed as Sarah Clarke.William Rainbows father is listed as Daniel.

A kind person on the internet did a look up of the 1851 census and foun the following.
SQuare,High St,Hanslope
Daniel RAINBOW 45 Ag. Lab. b Hanslope
Esther wife 36 Charwoman ditto
George son 21 Ag.Lab do
James son 19 do
Louisa dau 15 Lacemaker do
William DITAM(?) son in law (can mean stepson) 13 Ag Lab do
Henry RAINBOW son b Hanslope
Elizabeth do dau 11m do.
He deduced from this information that the older children were Daniels from a previous marriage, William is Esthers son,and Henry and Elizabeth are theirs.

He then found these people living in the same street.
George CLARKE 40 Rail Lab b Hanslope
Elizabeth wife 40 Lacemaker do
Sarah dau 18 do do
George son 14 Ag Lab do
Mary dau 11 Lacemaker do
Jane dau 8 do do
Charlotte dau 3 do
Betsy dau 6m do
William RAINBOW son in law Widowed 24 Ag Lab Hanslope
William RAINBOW Grandson 2 b Hanslope.

I have a feeling that these families might be the right ones and I am hoping that there might be a RAINBOW or HOLLIS or CLARKE researcher amongst you all with the same interests.
Any advice on where I should go from here would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Cathy
