SC County Session Minutes of the Fall Term, 1821 contains a record of what appears to have been a real "family brawl," wherein there was an Indictment of Assault and Battery labeled: The State vs Elizabeth REILEY, JANE REILEY, ABNER REILEY, ISAIAH REILEY, AND VINCENT REILEY. [my ancestor] Witnesses to be subpoenaed in the case were: Lavenia Morris, Jas.Worthy, Sarah Worthy, WM. OTIS, Jno. Henderson, and (?) Morris. Lavenia Morris, Sarah Worthy,and MARY OTIS are believed to be the daughters of Vincent and Jane Raleigh....."
P. 17: "The children of Vincent and Jane Raleigh may have been as follows: Mary, b. abt. 1796, who m. WILLIAM OTIS; Lavenia, b.abt. 1798, who m. a Morris [possibly a John Henderson Morris] Jesse Mason, b. abt. 1800; James, b. abt. 1802; Sarah, b. abt. 1802/3 who m. James Worthy; Isaiah, b. abt. 1806; John, b. 1807, who m. first Polly unknown and m. second, Eliza unknown; William Daniel, b. 4 November 1810, m. Effie McLeod 3 May 1849 in Shelby Co., AL; Martha, b. abt. 1816, who m. Henry Gassaway 11 February 1838 (probably Shelby Co., AL); and possibly Irvin, b. abt. 1820.
MARY and WILLIAM OTIS remained in Chester County. In 1850 the family appeared as: WILLIAM OTIS, 52; MARY OTIS, 50; NANCY, 28; MATILDA, 20; JAMES, 18; MARY, 15; THOMAS S., 13; SARAH E., 9; and ROBERT WATTS, 4; all b. in SC. In 1860 the family is listed: WILLIAM OTIS, 64; MARY, 64; THOMAS, 23; ELIZA, 18; and JOHN, 16. Nearby is JAMES OTIS, 35; MARY, 25; William, 1."
