Richard, Thanks to the wonders of the internet, I have some corrections to make on my former note. My great-grandfather's brother, James McCahill (born 5-15-1858 in Southwold, Elgin County, Ontario) married Mary Rahilly in Detroit, Michigan April 13, 1890 (not 1870!). Her father was Patrick Rahilly of Lake City, MN, but formerly of County Limerick Ireland. From the 1880 US Census on www.familysearch.com, I discovered that Mary Rahilly was only 15 years old in 1880. Her father was Patrick H. Rahilly, age 47. Her mother was Catherine, age 43. Her siblings were Jennie 16, James 13, Agnes 11, John 8, and Margret 5. Patrick's brother Michael age 22 lived with them in Minnesota. In 1880 James McCahill was working as a carpenter in Minnesota, building storage silos for grain that would be transloaded onto the Great Lakes freighters. Making good money, he bought up land. In 1890, the Mesabi Range iron deposits were found, some of which were under his property. In any case, I hope the corrections clear up the time-line for the Rahillys in Minnesota.
