Ok, so it is a year later and I am replying to your original message. My father Tom is from Co.Kerry, and the pronouncation in Kerry is RAH-hill-y.My four siblings were born here (Boston) and all of us pronouce the name differently. One says Ray-hilly, the next Rah-hilly, followed by Ray-lee and the last, but not least, throws an "O" in the front, to confuse the issue even more. (O'Rahilly)
When I was younger, I visioned my future husband's name to be Jones, Smith or White, anything to substitute the painful (and constant) explaination/correction/pronounciation of the name.As I am sure you have received the comment many times:What kind of name is that, Irish?
But as I grew older, and still single, I must admit I will never give the name up and will not hyphen or preceed by an "O"I will be Kolleen Rahilly for the rest of my life.
