Well, yes...people do tend to annihilate the pronunciation. For the record, I pronounce it RA-hilly, and having visited Co. Kerry where it is a fairly well known name, found that is probably the most accurate. Of course it sounds much better with a Kerry accent. I've heard it pronounced RA-lee (like Sir Walter Raleigh), RI-ley, and get called ra-HILL-ee a lot. I grew up wishing I had an easier, more recognizable name but now I'm used to it. Learning some Irish history gave me a greater appreciation for the name. The only way I might have wanted to change it would have been to include the O' prefix.
