There are many Gideon and Reuben Raglands in this family; all are related. The Halifax Raglands (Reuben 1740-1806, who had a son Gideon born c1765) and Gideon (1755-1837) were brothers, son of William Ragland (1709-1773).
The Reuben Ragland you reference is the son of Evan Ragland.Evan's father was a Stephen Ragland (1688-1747) and was an uncle to William Ragland mentioned above who settled in Halifax County, VA.
A good resource for Ragland history is the well researched work by Charles James Ragland, Jr. "The Raglands:The Hisotry of a British-American Family" in two volumes.
My line is the Granville Raglands.Reuben (c1763-1805) married Mary Perry O'Briant "Polly" and had a large family.Mary is the only daughter of Patrick O'Briant (c1740-1804) also of Granville County.Mary was widowed and remarried to Zachariah Pinson.I descend from their daughter Nancy (c1802-1883) who married William Jones (1795-1861) also of Granville County.
I would be interested in any Ragland or Obriant family history you may have. Please contact me direct as an answer to this notice will not notify me automatically.
